SYDNEY, Feb 13 (Reuters) - Australian police on Monday said they had recovered the body of an elderly man they believed to be one of two German tourists missing in the remote northern outback.
"I can confirm the body of a man believed to be the missing German tourist has been located," a spokesman for the Northern Territory police said.
Searchers were continuing to look for a second person, believed to be the man's wife, he said.
A ground and air search was launched on Sunday after a ranger found a car thought to belong to a German couple, aged in their 70s, at Trephina Gorge, 1,500 kms (900 miles) from the Northern Territory capital of Darwin, according to media reports.
