Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Power and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yamato Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:9064), which rose 7.89% or 179.5 points to trade at 2454.0 at the close. Showa Shell Sekiyu K.K. (T:5002) added 4.11% or 45.0 points to end at 1141.0 and Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (T:7003) was up 3.87% or 7.0 points to 188.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 4.71% or 10.6 points to trade at 214.6 in late trade. Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) declined 2.68% or 17.0 points to end at 618.0 and Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) shed 2.60% or 15.0 points to 562.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1628 to 1366 and 345 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 0.59% to 16.98 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 0.90% or 0.48 to $54.07 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in April rose 0.90% or 0.50 to hit $56.34 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract rose 0.32% or 3.95 to trade at $1237.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.04% to 113.27, while EUR/JPY fell 0.04% to 119.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 101.33.
