Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Life Insurance/Assurance, Tobacco and General Industrial sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 2.50% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 4.75% or 29.00 points to trade at 640.00 at the close. NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 points to end at 2402.00 and Croda International PLC (LON:CRDA) was down 0.04% or 2.00 points to 4674.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which lost 6.83% or 139.50 points to trade at 1903.50 in late trade. Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) declined 5.53% or 88.50 points to end at 1512.00 and Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW) shed 5.18% or 8.05 points to 147.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1812 to 408 and 142 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.24% or 18.05 to $1475.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.17% or 0.65 to hit $55.01 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.94% or 1.82 to trade at $60.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.01% to 1.2152, while EUR/GBP rose 0.96% to 0.9223.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.61% at 97.255.
