Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Travel & Leisure and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 1.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.06% or 76.00 points to trade at 2556.00 at the close. Spirax-Sarco Engineering PLC (LON:SPX) added 2.20% or 204.0 points to end at 9466.0 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 2.14% or 44.00 points to 2100.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 10.77% or 101.2 points to trade at 838.2 in late trade. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) declined 9.17% or 8.44 points to end at 83.60 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) shed 8.64% or 298.0 points to 3152.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1595 to 612 and 127 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.56% or 9.60 to $1716.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.32% or 0.34 to hit $25.44 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 0.62 to trade at $29.36 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.21% to 1.2233, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8845.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 100.237.
