Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Transportation, Mining and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 1.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which rose 2.36% or 15.80 points to trade at 685.80 at the close. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 1.65% or 1.03 points to end at 63.41 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 1.43% or 23.50 points to 1664.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 8.61% or 13.95 points to trade at 148.05 in late trade. Next PLC (LON:NXT) declined 7.14% or 424.00 points to end at 5512.00 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) shed 3.98% or 6.95 points to 167.65.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1172 to 820 and 330 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.49% or 6.00 to $1217.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.38% or 0.95 to hit $67.81 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.05% or 1.52 to trade at $72.69 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.3117, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.8895.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 94.44.
