Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil & Gas Producers and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Centrica PLC (LON:CNA), which rose 4.58% or 3.66 points to trade at 83.54 at the close. NatWest Group PLC (LON:NWG) added 3.03% or 6.70 points to end at 228.00 and Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) was up 2.81% or 59.00 points to 2,162.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 6.89% or 33.25 points to trade at 449.35 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 6.43% or 85.50 points to end at 1,244.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 5.20% or 4.72 points to 86.11.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1237 to 637 and 383 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.02% or 0.40 to $1,838.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 3.62% or 3.96 to hit $105.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.30% or 3.78 to trade at $110.87 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.06% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP rose 0.61% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 103.92.
