Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Electrical, Tobacco and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 8.16% or 15.35 points to trade at 203.50 at the close. Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) added 5.28% or 11.70 points to end at 233.30 and ITV PLC (LON:ITV) was up 3.41% or 2.52 points to 76.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB), which lost 6.50% or 107.50 points to trade at 1545.50 in late trade. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) declined 5.44% or 2.14 points to end at 37.22 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 4.79% or 61.50 points to 1223.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1140 to 1049 and 119 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.60% or 10.45 to $1744.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.03% or 0.01 to hit $31.66 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.22 to trade at $34.59 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.56% to 1.2257, while EUR/GBP fell 0.32% to 0.8918.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 99.517.
