Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.81% to hit a new 3-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which rose 1.94% or 15.00 points to trade at 789.20 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 1.36% or 41.00 points to end at 3049.50 and National Grid PLC (LON:NG) was up 0.97% or 8.20 points to 851.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Just Eat (LON:JE), which lost 5.96% or 48.20 points to trade at 760.60 in late trade. Phoenix Group Holdings PLC (LON:PHNX) declined 5.55% or 37.70 points to end at 641.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 5.19% or 92.80 points to 1696.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1557 to 551 and 180 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.11% or 1.65 to $1529.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.74% or 0.96 to hit $54.27 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.34% or 1.39 to trade at $58.09 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.48% to 1.2116, while EUR/GBP fell 0.79% to 0.9160.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 98.058.
