Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU), which rose 1.29% or 9.40 points to trade at 738.80 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 0.94% or 18.50 points to end at 1983.50 and Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) was up 0.78% or 31.00 points to 4020.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hammerson PLC (LON:HMSO), which lost 5.00% or 24.60 points to trade at 467.80 in late trade. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) declined 4.25% or 7.10 points to end at 159.90 and Intu Properties PLC (LON:INTUP) shed 3.40% or 5.50 points to 156.25.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1213 to 797 and 324 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.62% or 7.50 to $1204.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.62% or 0.43 to hit $69.94 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.35 to trade at $77.81 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.28% to 1.2990, while EUR/GBP fell 0.28% to 0.8963.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 94.82.
