Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mining and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.62%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 6.49% or 9.30 points to trade at 152.50 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 3.54% or 4.35 points to end at 127.20 and Intertek Group PLC (LON:ITRK) was up 2.41% or 132.0 points to 5602.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq), which lost 5.72% or 0.93 points to trade at 15.25 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 4.84% or 106.00 points to end at 2083.00 and NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) shed 4.43% or 0.34 points to 7.42.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1374 to 874 and 226 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.73% or 12.60 to $1743.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.40% or 0.26 to hit $64.54 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.42 to trade at $67.97 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.54% to 1.3962, while EUR/GBP rose 0.19% to 0.8581.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 91.395.
