Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Aerospace & Defense and Chemicals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq), which rose 4.23% or 0.036 points to trade at 0.899 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 3.55% or 38.50 points to end at 1123.00 and 3I Group PLC (LON:III) was up 2.77% or 30.00 points to 1114.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 7.86% or 7.74 points to trade at 90.68 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) declined 5.03% or 56.5 points to end at 1067.0 and HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) shed 4.24% or 16.45 points to 371.15.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1164 to 1107 and 66 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.89% or 16.55 to $1878.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.46% or 0.19 to hit $41.64 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.32% or 0.14 to trade at $43.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.65% to 1.3135, while EUR/GBP rose 1.03% to 0.8996.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 92.865.
