Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Forestry & Paper, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Food & Drug Retailers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.52% to hit a new 1-month low.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which rose 3.27% or 42.00 points to trade at 1325.00 at the close. Provident Financial (LON:PFG) added 1.94% or 16.50 points to end at 869.00 and Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) was up 1.54% or 5.90 points to 389.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3I Group PLC (LON:III), which lost 3.39% or 31.50 points to trade at 898.50 in late trade. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) declined 3.10% or 55.00 points to end at 1721.00 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) shed 2.98% or 14.50 points to 471.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1526 to 513 and 373 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 4.57 to $1278.33 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.59% or 0.33 to hit $55.37 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.47% or 0.29 to trade at $61.92 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.02% to 1.3168, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.8959.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 93.74.
