Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Tobacco, Oil & Gas Producers and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq), which rose 6.00% or 0.055 points to trade at 0.971 at the close. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) added 2.70% or 8.20 points to end at 311.80 and Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) was up 2.38% or 0.12 points to 5.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 3.62% or 36.7 points to trade at 977.8 in late trade. International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) declined 3.61% or 7.90 points to end at 211.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) shed 3.61% or 13.10 points to 350.10.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1103 to 1030 and 157 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.37% or 6.70 to $1816.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.29% or 0.12 to hit $40.87 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.13 to trade at $43.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.62% to 1.2644, while EUR/GBP fell 0.46% to 0.9045.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 95.817.
