Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 7.21% or 66.00 points to trade at 981.00 at the close. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) added 6.11% or 112.50 points to end at 1953.50 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) was up 2.70% or 158.00 points to 6016.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 4.65% or 40.40 points to trade at 829.20 in late trade. NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) declined 3.44% or 72.00 points to end at 2023.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 2.85% or 29.00 points to 988.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1274 to 850 and 207 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.13% or 1.90 to $1507.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.83% or 2.01 to hit $54.55 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.42% or 1.39 to trade at $58.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.57% to 1.2062, while EUR/GBP rose 0.84% to 0.9289.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 97.330.
