Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were WPP PLC (LON:WPP), which rose 3.77% or 28.00 points to trade at 770.20 at the close. Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) added 2.95% or 4.35 points to end at 151.70 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 2.21% or 26.50 points to 1,228.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which lost 2.82% or 148.00 points to trade at 5,098.00 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 2.65% or 16.00 points to end at 587.50 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) shed 2.47% or 38.00 points to 1,499.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 975 to 608 and 537 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.09% or 1.85 to $2,051.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.35% or 1.70 to hit $73.89 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.74% or 1.35 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.33% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 102.04.
