Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Aerospace & Defense, Food & Drug Retailers and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND), which rose 2.73% or 14.80 points to trade at 557.60 at the close. 3I Group PLC (LON:III) added 2.59% or 24.60 points to end at 974.60 and Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) was up 2.46% or 38.00 points to 1580.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 5.96% or 20.10 points to trade at 317.40 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 5.39% or 10.95 points to end at 192.35 and Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) shed 2.56% or 3.20 points to 122.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1084 to 1077 and 176 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.35% or 6.80 to $1973.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.44% or 1.70 to hit $39.98 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 3.73% or 1.51 to trade at $42.04 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.80% to 1.2989, while EUR/GBP fell 0.85% to 0.9111.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 92.985.
