Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Electrical, Food Producers and Tobacco sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.27%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 4.32% or 79.50 points to trade at 1919.50 at the close. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) added 3.45% or 133.00 points to end at 3988.00 and Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) was up 2.20% or 52.0 points to 2412.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL), which lost 3.93% or 14.20 points to trade at 347.00 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) declined 3.57% or 102.00 points to end at 2755.00 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 3.13% or 42.00 points to 1300.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1102 to 901 and 132 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.60% or 8.10 to $1331.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.23% or 0.15 to hit $64.12 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $69.39 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.51% to 1.3900, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.8813.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 90.24.
