Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF), which rose 3.42% or 101.00 points to trade at 3051.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:HSBA) added 1.94% or 10.600 points to end at 557.500 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 1.90% or 3.15 points to 169.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 5.59% or 100.00 points to trade at 1690.00 in late trade. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) declined 5.54% or 30.00 points to end at 511.50 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 4.78% or 41.00 points to 817.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1078 to 1029 and 495 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.53% or 7.05 to $1320.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.02% or 0.48 to hit $46.50 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.38% or 0.68 to trade at $48.77 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.16% to 1.3084, while EUR/GBP fell 0.16% to 0.8524.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.46% at 95.97.
