Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the General Retailers, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Financial Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.12% or 4.30 points to trade at 142.10 at the close. Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) added 2.27% or 135.00 points to end at 6,091.00 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) was up 2.04% or 1.70 points to 84.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP), which lost 3.53% or 56.50 points to trade at 1,542.50 in late trade. Rightmove PLC (LON:RMV) declined 3.40% or 20.20 points to end at 573.60 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 3.22% or 30.60 points to 920.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1132 to 727 and 441 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.44% or 8.05 to $1,851.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.75% or 0.89 to hit $117.61 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.41% or 0.49 to trade at $119.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.39% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 102.42.
