Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Household Goods & Home Construction and Mobile Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Johnson Matthey PLC (LON:JMAT), which rose 3.42% or 116.00 points to trade at 3513.00 at the close. CRH PLC (LON:CRH) added 3.17% or 85.00 points to end at 2765.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 2.66% or 35.00 points to 1352.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which lost 4.71% or 41.20 points to trade at 833.30 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 4.54% or 13.50 points to end at 284.00 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) shed 2.68% or 16.80 points to 611.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1024 to 985 and 320 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.08% or 1.00 to $1300.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.61% or 1.10 to hit $67.11 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.45 to trade at $78.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.05% to 1.3293, while EUR/GBP fell 0.08% to 0.8773.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 94.09.
