Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Automobiles & Parts and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which rose 8.59% or 12.80 points to trade at 161.80 at the close. InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LON:IHG) added 5.36% or 424.00 points to end at 8,334.00 and Aviva PLC (LON:AV) was up 3.14% or 13.50 points to 443.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 3.65% or 198.00 points to trade at 5,230.00 in late trade. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) declined 3.39% or 27.00 points to end at 770.00 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) shed 3.29% or 58.40 points to 1,719.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1047 to 698 and 712 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.71% or 14.40 to $2,038.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.53% or 1.20 to hit $77.26 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.35% or 1.13 to trade at $82.43 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.26% at 103.91.
