Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mining, Industrial Engineering and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.70% or 6.55 points to trade at 183.50 at the close. NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) added 3.40% or 0.24 points to end at 7.43 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) was up 3.04% or 17.60 points to 597.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO), which lost 7.71% or 491.2 points to trade at 5878.0 in late trade. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) declined 6.37% or 74.00 points to end at 1088.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) shed 6.30% or 116.00 points to 1726.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1390 to 872 and 180 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.04% or 17.90 to $1697.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.96% or 3.04 to hit $64.32 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 4.82% or 3.09 to trade at $67.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.24% to 1.3920, while EUR/GBP fell 0.39% to 0.8609.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.65% at 91.537.
