Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Beverage and Media sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA), which rose 2.94% or 15.20 points to trade at 532.40 at the close. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) added 2.82% or 15.40 points to end at 561.80 and Capita PLC (LON:CPI) was up 2.37% or 2.75 points to 118.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 2.23% or 27.00 points to trade at 1184.00 in late trade. Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG) declined 2.20% or 6.30 points to end at 280.00 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) shed 1.73% or 103.00 points to 5857.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1035 to 1022 and 336 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.19% or 2.45 to $1316.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.60% or 0.32 to hit $53.98 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.92% or 0.57 to trade at $62.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.06% to 1.2950, while EUR/GBP fell 0.30% to 0.8789.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 96.007.
