Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Beverage and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 2.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 7.25% or 183.0 points to trade at 2708.0 at the close. Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) added 5.03% or 124.0 points to end at 2589.0 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) was up 4.67% or 41.60 points to 932.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which lost 5.10% or 52.6 points to trade at 978.4 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 4.00% or 15.30 points to end at 367.30 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) shed 3.49% or 11.00 points to 304.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1257 to 914 and 137 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.45% or 8.70 to $1955.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.87% or 0.78 to hit $42.39 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.64% or 0.73 to trade at $45.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.06% to 1.3040, while EUR/GBP rose 0.52% to 0.9042.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 93.370.
