Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, General Industrial and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 11.84% or 217.00 points to trade at 2050.00 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 5.97% or 43.60 points to end at 773.60 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 5.41% or 44.60 points to 869.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 5.88% or 10.84 points to trade at 173.56 in late trade. Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD) declined 2.64% or 8.10 points to end at 298.80 and Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA) shed 1.76% or 4.60 points to 256.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1452 to 665 and 195 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.70% or 10.65 to $1508.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.33% or 1.19 to hit $52.28 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 2.03% or 1.14 to trade at $57.37 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.2145, while EUR/GBP rose 0.09% to 0.9228.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 97.340.
