Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU), which rose 7.71% or 11.82 points to trade at 165.06 at the close. Kingfisher PLC (LON:KGF) added 5.60% or 13.60 points to end at 256.30 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 4.69% or 15.10 points to 336.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN), which lost 4.43% or 70.50 points to trade at 1520.50 in late trade. Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) declined 2.95% or 17.00 points to end at 560.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 2.79% or 68.00 points to 2366.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1226 to 849 and 320 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.78% or 9.50 to $1201.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.88% or 0.62 to hit $70.94 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.24 to trade at $78.94 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 1.45% to 1.3070, while EUR/GBP rose 1.21% to 0.8982.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.42% at 93.86.
