Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Tobacco, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.44% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 6.14% or 120.00 points to trade at 2073.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 5.47% or 9.98 points to end at 192.46 and NMC Health PLC (LON:NMC) was up 4.91% or 121.00 points to 2585.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pearson PLC (LON:PSON), which lost 0.94% or 6.20 points to trade at 653.80 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 0.05% or 0.50 points to end at 1001.00 and Just Eat (LON:JE) 0.00% or 0.00 points to 790.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1607 to 625 and 171 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.12% or 1.85 to $1479.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.35% or 0.21 to hit $60.19 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.51% or 0.33 to trade at $65.55 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.00% to 1.3324, while EUR/GBP rose 0.26% to 0.8363.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 96.645.
