Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Oil & Gas Producers and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which rose 6.77% or 6.23 points to trade at 98.23 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 6.26% or 8.35 points to end at 141.75 and Prudential PLC (LON:PRU) was up 6.21% or 66.00 points to 1,129.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sberbank Of Russia (LON:SBNCyq), which lost 78.43% or 0.16 points to trade at 0.05 in late trade. NK Rosneft PAO DRC (LON:ROSNq) declined 77.71% or 2.10 points to end at 0.60 and GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) shed 40.88% or 1.31 points to 1.89.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1056 to 911 and 403 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.14% or 22.15 to $1,921.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 5.21% or 5.39 to hit $108.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 5.63% or 5.91 to trade at $110.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.34, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.40% to 0.83.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.44.
