Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Oil & Gas Producers and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.36% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which rose 8.35% or 53.60 points to trade at 695.60 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 6.17% or 161.50 points to end at 2780.00 and BP PLC (LON:BP) was up 3.92% or 21.60 points to 572.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY), which lost 6.08% or 114.50 points to trade at 1770.00 in late trade. Compass Group PLC (LON:CPG) declined 4.77% or 75.50 points to end at 1508.00 and Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) shed 1.54% or 13.00 points to 830.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1110 to 759 and 391 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.04% or 0.50 to $1313.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 3.13% or 2.16 to hit $71.22 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 3.09% or 2.31 to trade at $77.16 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.10% to 1.3561, while EUR/GBP fell 0.24% to 0.8740.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 92.92.
