Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Construction & Materials and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 5.50% or 86.60 points to trade at 1661.60 at the close. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) added 4.84% or 39.00 points to end at 844.00 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 4.71% or 34.80 points to 774.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Life Aberdeen PLC (LON:SLA), which lost 1.90% or 4.35 points to trade at 224.85 in late trade. Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) declined 1.62% or 114.00 points to end at 6906.00 and Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) shed 1.06% or 0.56 points to 52.33.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1293 to 747 and 306 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.20 to $1249.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.25% or 0.64 to hit $51.64 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.57% or 0.34 to trade at $60.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.31% to 1.2524, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.9032.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 97.455.
