Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Forestry & Paper, Tobacco and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 3.54% or 9.60 points to trade at 280.70 at the close. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) added 3.49% or 405.0 points to end at 12020.0 and Ferguson Plc (LON:FERG) was up 3.42% or 248.0 points to 7510.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 5.75% or 73.50 points to trade at 1204.50 in late trade. Surgutneftegaz L (LON:SNGSyq) declined 1.75% or 0.08 points to end at 4.49 and BT Group PLC (LON:BT) shed 1.69% or 1.75 points to 101.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1270 to 889 and 161 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.04% or 38.95 to $1868.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.70% or 0.28 to hit $40.08 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.55% or 0.23 to trade at $41.95 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.12% to 1.2747, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.9163.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 94.257.
