Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Mobile Telecommunications and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 6.25% or 9.70 points to trade at 164.82 at the close. Old Mutual Ltd (LON:OMU) added 5.50% or 6.84 points to end at 131.08 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 4.28% or 14.60 points to 355.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 2.09% or 7.10 points to trade at 332.90 in late trade. Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) declined 2.09% or 150.00 points to end at 7040.00 and Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) shed 1.38% or 25.50 points to 1824.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1350 to 718 and 303 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.01% or 0.10 to $1229.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.52% or 1.27 to hit $51.69 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.76% or 1.63 to trade at $60.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.2818, while EUR/GBP rose 0.01% to 0.8849.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 96.882.
