Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Metals & Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.15%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 7.36% or 76.50 points to trade at 1,116.50 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 7.11% or 187.00 points to end at 2,816.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 6.07% or 24.80 points to 433.25 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which lost 4.96% or 92.50 points to trade at 1,772.50 in late trade. Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF) declined 4.12% or 348.00 points to end at 8,090.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) shed 3.13% or 109.00 points to 3,379.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1247 to 537 and 461 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.21% or 3.70 to $1,740.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 5.44% or 5.36 to hit $103.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 4.95% or 4.98 to trade at $105.67 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.63% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP fell 0.93% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 106.99.
