Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 1.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 10.49% or 18.40 points to trade at 193.80 at the close. Coca Cola HBC AG (LON:CCH) added 8.12% or 165.0 points to end at 2198.0 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 7.48% or 13.66 points to 196.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Diageo PLC (LON:DGE), which lost 3.60% or 98.0 points to trade at 2623.0 in late trade. JSC VTB Bank DRC (LON:VTBRq) declined 3.17% or 0.033 points to end at 1.008 and Centrica PLC (LON:CNA) shed 1.74% or 0.85 points to 47.99.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1512 to 650 and 169 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for October delivery was up 1.44% or 28.95 to $2037.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.37% or 0.57 to hit $42.27 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.89% or 0.84 to trade at $45.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.56% to 1.3133, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.9044.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.69% at 92.733.
