Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Industrial Transportation and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.09% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 9.70% or 24.80 points to trade at 280.40 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 6.12% or 75.00 points to end at 1300.00 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG) was up 4.67% or 7.80 points to 174.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which lost 1.53% or 4.30 points to trade at 277.40 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 1.47% or 8.40 points to end at 563.00 and GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) shed 1.40% or 23.00 points to 1620.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1474 to 463 and 435 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.46% or 8.35 to $1836.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.26% or 0.23 to hit $89.13 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.32% or 0.29 to trade at $91.07 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.3535, while EUR/GBP rose 0.23% to 0.8446.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 95.485.
