Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Beverage and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Taylor Wimpey PLC (LON:TW), which rose 4.34% or 6.20 points to trade at 148.95 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 4.11% or 38.60 points to end at 978.20 and Diageo PLC (LON:DGE) was up 3.39% or 95.0 points to 2900.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 2.79% or 68.0 points to trade at 2365.0 in late trade. Land Securities Group PLC (LON:LAND) declined 2.76% or 17.20 points to end at 605.80 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 1.82% or 7.50 points to 405.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1234 to 824 and 158 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.31% or 22.75 to $1753.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.65% or 0.64 to hit $39.48 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.30% or 0.54 to trade at $42.05 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.55% to 1.2356, while EUR/GBP rose 0.44% to 0.9054.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 97.570.
