Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Financial Services and Forestry & Paper sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Flutter Entertainment PLC (LON:FLTRF), which rose 4.06% or 350.0 points to trade at 8968.0 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON) added 3.42% or 8.10 points to end at 244.90 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 3.23% or 36.50 points to 1167.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 1.90% or 12.80 points to trade at 662.20 in late trade. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) declined 1.14% or 6.60 points to end at 570.40 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 0.70% or 4.40 points to 626.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1404 to 732 and 202 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.48% or 7.75 to $1611.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.58% or 1.35 to hit $53.64 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 2.65% or 1.53 to trade at $59.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.63% to 1.2915, while EUR/GBP rose 0.68% to 0.8357.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 99.597.
