Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which rose 4.21% or 19.40 points to trade at 480.00 at the close. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) added 3.38% or 98.50 points to end at 3014.00 and Tui AG (LON:TUIT) was up 3.37% or 24.20 points to 743.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Mail PLC (LON:RMG), which lost 3.73% or 7.60 points to trade at 195.90 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 1.34% or 3.00 points to end at 220.50 and Next PLC (LON:NXT) shed 1.04% or 60.00 points to 5716.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1479 to 689 and 235 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.36% or 4.85 to $1347.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.83% or 0.96 to hit $53.55 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 1.16 to trade at $62.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.42% to 1.2752, while EUR/GBP rose 0.21% to 0.8894.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 96.458.
