Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Automobiles & Parts and Travel & Leisure sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV), which rose 7.07% or 48.40 points to trade at 732.60 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 7.04% or 115.0 points to end at 1748.5 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 6.83% or 185.0 points to 2895.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Avast PLC (LON:AVST), which lost 2.84% or 13.20 points to trade at 451.00 in late trade. Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust PLC (LON:SMT) declined 2.68% or 32.00 points to end at 1162.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) shed 2.47% or 55.0 points to 2168.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1245 to 1001 and 209 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.00% or 17.25 to $1716.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.43% or 2.05 to hit $61.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.97% or 1.86 to trade at $64.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.08% to 1.3964, while EUR/GBP fell 0.18% to 0.8646.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.12% at 90.900.
