Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Automobiles & Parts, Oil & Gas Producers and Industrial Metals & Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.83%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO), which rose 6.75% or 35.60 points to trade at 563.00 at the close. Informa PLC (LON:INF) added 5.74% or 27.80 points to end at 511.80 and Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) was up 5.36% or 167.5 points to 3293.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which lost 6.55% or 12.05 points to trade at 171.90 in late trade. Smith & Nephew PLC (LON:SN) declined 6.33% or 99.00 points to end at 1464.50 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) shed 3.98% or 61.00 points to 1472.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1292 to 930 and 196 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.77% or 31.80 to $1831.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.27% or 0.92 to hit $73.31 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.31% or 0.97 to trade at $74.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.44% to 1.3959, while EUR/GBP fell 0.06% to 0.8512.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.42% at 91.933.
