Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Fixed Line Telecommunications, Tobacco and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.63%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BT Group PLC (LON:BT), which rose 2.84% or 6.15 points to trade at 223.00 at the close. Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL) added 2.56% or 10.00 points to end at 400.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 2.36% or 90.00 points to 3910.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 8.10% or 28.30 points to trade at 321.00 in late trade. Micro Focus International PLC (LON:MCRO) declined 8.04% or 108.00 points to end at 1235.50 and RSA Insurance Group PLC (LON:RSA) shed 3.19% or 21.60 points to 656.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1165 to 777 and 340 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.17% or 14.50 to $1256.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $73.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $77.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.16% to 1.3167, while EUR/GBP fell 0.12% to 0.8845.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 94.43.
