Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Tobacco and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.62% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK), which rose 3.49% or 42.50 points to trade at 1261.00 at the close. United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) added 3.19% or 22.80 points to end at 737.60 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 3.00% or 115.50 points to 3965.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN), which lost 4.06% or 11.30 points to trade at 267.10 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.04% or 26.00 points to end at 1251.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) shed 1.90% or 7.15 points to 370.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1202 to 722 and 136 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.36% or 4.70 to $1318.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.19% or 0.13 to hit $67.92 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.35 to trade at $74.35 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.06% to 1.3923, while EUR/GBP fell 0.33% to 0.8701.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.30% at 91.30.
