Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Gas, Water & Multiutilities, Electrical and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were National Grid PLC (LON:NG), which rose 4.67% or 39.40 points to trade at 882.40 at the close. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) added 2.27% or 39.00 points to end at 1,755.00 and Severn Trent PLC (LON:SVT) was up 2.14% or 50.00 points to 2,386.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JD Sports Fashion PLC (LON:JD), which lost 4.71% or 6.30 points to trade at 127.50 in late trade. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) declined 4.14% or 110.00 points to end at 2,550.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) shed 2.58% or 9.90 points to 373.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1011 to 781 and 725 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.59% or 13.85 to $2,352.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.92% or 0.72 to hit $77.19 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.74% or 0.61 to trade at $81.27 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.14% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 104.64.
