Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Tobacco, Electrical and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Unilever PLC (LON:ULVR), which rose 3.34% or 136.50 points to trade at 4225.00 at the close. Relx PLC (LON:REL) added 2.91% or 49.00 points to end at 1733.00 and British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) was up 2.53% or 122.50 points to 4966.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Barclays PLC (LON:BARC), which lost 7.41% or 14.60 points to trade at 182.40 in late trade. GlaxoSmithKline PLC (LON:GSK) declined 3.43% or 49.0 points to end at 1380.0 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 2.06% or 74.00 points to 3523.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1135 to 835 and 398 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.38% or 4.80 to $1274.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.57% or 0.30 to hit $52.48 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.22 to trade at $58.66 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.74% to 1.3166, while EUR/GBP fell 0.30% to 0.8881.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.83% at 94.31.
