Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Tobacco, Industrial Transportation and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.54% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Merlin Entertainments PLC (LON:MERL), which rose 3.43% or 15.40 points to trade at 463.80 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.04% or 43.50 points to end at 1473.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 3.03% or 10.90 points to 370.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aviva PLC (LON:AV), which lost 1.72% or 8.60 points to trade at 490.30 in late trade. WPP PLC (LON:WPP) declined 1.35% or 19.00 points to end at 1384.00 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) shed 1.14% or 2.20 points to 190.15.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1112 to 846 and 430 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.09% or 1.18 to $1275.62 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.94% or 0.97 to hit $50.95 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.37% or 1.32 to trade at $57.12 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.84% to 1.3132, while EUR/GBP rose 0.38% to 0.8914.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.47% at 93.75.
