Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Insurance, Tobacco and Pharmaceuticals & Biotech sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML), which rose 4.86% or 125.00 points to trade at 2,698.00 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 3.14% or 55.50 points to end at 1,825.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 2.94% or 54.50 points to 1,910.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included St. James's Place PLC (LON:SJP), which lost 3.55% or 16.70 points to trade at 453.70 in late trade. SSE PLC (LON:SSE) declined 2.24% or 37.00 points to end at 1,613.00 and Airtel Africa Plc (LON:AAF) shed 1.98% or 1.90 points to 93.85.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1069 to 713 and 666 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.15% or 3.25 to $2,188.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.12% or 0.09 to hit $77.92 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.21% or 0.17 to trade at $82.25 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.37% to 1.28, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.26% to 0.85.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 102.43.
