Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS), which rose 3.72% or 10.50 points to trade at 292.80 at the close. Avast PLC (LON:AVST) added 3.17% or 15.60 points to end at 507.40 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 2.98% or 38.50 points to 1,329.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 6.31% or 28.00 points to trade at 415.70 in late trade. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) declined 4.03% or 6.65 points to end at 158.45 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) shed 3.08% or 22.40 points to 705.20.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 956 to 895 and 420 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.10% or 1.75 to $1,838.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.63% or 1.76 to hit $109.75 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 0.81% or 0.93 to trade at $115.06 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.08% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 104.15.
