Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Tobacco, Banking and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.47% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Bank VTB PAO DRC (LON:VTBRq), which rose 4.14% or 0.048 points to trade at 1.206 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 3.30% or 7.40 points to end at 231.85 and GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq) was up 3.12% or 1.02 points to 33.68 in late trade.
Biggest losers included London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG), which lost 2.53% or 200.0 points to trade at 7700.0 in late trade. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) declined 2.28% or 2.44 points to end at 104.56 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 1.70% or 41.00 points to 2367.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1371 to 873 and 232 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.68% or 12.05 to $1778.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.43% or 0.27 to hit $63.19 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.16% or 0.11 to trade at $66.83 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.27% to 1.3823, while EUR/GBP fell 0.13% to 0.8666.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 91.560.
