Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas Producers, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Aerospace & Defense sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.47%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which rose 11.24% or 44.74 points to trade at 442.84 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 10.88% or 162.0 points to end at 1651.5 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 5.45% or 50.80 points to 983.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GMK Norilskiy Nikel PAO DRC (LON:NKELyq), which lost 4.43% or 1.53 points to trade at 33.01 in late trade. Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) declined 3.17% or 4.12 points to end at 125.82 and United Utilities Group PLC (LON:UU) shed 2.33% or 21.00 points to 880.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1376 to 940 and 89 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.68% or 12.35 to $1793.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 2.58% or 1.59 to hit $63.26 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.76% or 1.78 to trade at $66.26 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.4104, while EUR/GBP fell 0.10% to 0.8599.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 90.297.
