Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Household Goods & Home Construction, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Tobacco sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.44% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN), which rose 2.33% or 63.00 points to trade at 2761.00 at the close. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) added 2.22% or 40.00 points to end at 1843.00 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) was up 2.19% or 152.00 points to 7090.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 7.87% or 71.50 points to trade at 836.50 in late trade. Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) declined 1.90% or 12.00 points to end at 619.50 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 1.64% or 12.00 points to 719.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 995 to 993 and 417 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.65% or 8.36 to $1293.36 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 2.90% or 1.44 to hit $51.02 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.95% or 1.09 to trade at $56.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.53% to 1.3212, while EUR/GBP fell 0.03% to 0.8930.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.49% at 93.09.
